In 2000 I was riding my bicycle up a canyon road near my house. This was sort of unusual for me since I am a heavier rider and prefer the flats rather than trying to haul the extra lbs up an incline. On this particular ride I had another rider that caught me and then sat on my wheel for what seemed like forever. Every so often I would hear his freewheel spin and I knew he was coasting while I did all the work to get us to the top. I was so frustrated that he would not take a turn and help out. After about 3 miles he finally pulled ahead of me and pulled for about 200 yards. When he pulled off to let me take the next pull I said to myself there is no way I am gong to pull him the rest of the way up the hill. I accelerated! I gave it about 20% more effort than I normally would have in order to lose this guy. It worked. I heard him as I rounded the next corner say “Hey wait up”. I never saw him again.
When I came home, and told my family how good I felt as I dropped this guy who probably weighed 20lbs less than me, my 10 year old son looked up at me and said “Wow dad, Your a bumble bee.”
“A bumblebee?” I asked
“Yeah, You defy the laws of physics!”
At first I was offended, then I was amused. Later I reflected that there are a lot of Bumblebees in the world. There are a lot of people who are trying to lose weight and are out performing those around them.
If you are a Bumblebee this is the place for you!
